HELPING PRESCHOOLERS IN THE SACRED VALLEY
The Quechua people are a minority in Peru and trace their lineage to the Incas. The community of Matinga is in a remote mountain village. Students speak Spanish, but their primary language is Quechuan.
The Situation - June 2022
20 students, ages 4-6, at the Matina Nro school were in need of supplies. The villagers of Matinga are farmers and occasionally work as guides in the mountains surrounding the village. Funds are limited and there is no store in Qorao.
The Positive Outcome
G2 GIVE GLOBAL delivered 115 pounds of school supplies. Every student received a backpack that included a notebook, 2 folders, colored pencils, pencils, scissors, glue, erasers, and a colorful cotton shirt. We also created a bag for the teachers that contained math flashcards, several reams of colored paper, and extra bookbags.
G2 GIVE GLOBAL volunteers explained the importance of education and played games with the children. The students sang a traditional Quechua song for the volunteers.
